The End of Feeling

By Cindy C Bennett

The End of Feelingnew

Book Blurb:

Eighteen-year-old Benjamin Nefer seems to have it all: great looks, incredible football skills, and smooth moves that have won—and broken—the hearts of countless girls at his high school. But his hellish home life has left him feeling empty inside, unable to experience real feelings.

He thinks he’s fine being this way forever…until he meets a beautiful and witty seventeen-year-old girl named Charlotte “Charlie” Austin. She may be new in town, but she’s already been warned about Benjamin’s reputation, so it’s easy for her to shoot down his advances.

Like him, she’s happier keeping people at a distance, especially since she, too, has secrets she’s not ready to share with anyone.

But as the tentative friendship between the charismatic football captain and the new girl grows, Charlie finds herself feeling closer to Benjamin than she’s ever felt with anyone—and he wonders if he’s really capable of loving after all. Can they drop their guard, or is this so-called romance just another game?

Excerpt #1

I don’t feel anything anymore.

If I were going to feel something, it would be for my sister, Mia. She’s gone now, has been for the last eight years since I was nine . . . and I somehow doubt she’s coming back.

I loved her when she was here. I tried to protect her.

I failed.

When he finally hurt her so badly that she nearly died, torn up inside and out, she came and took her. She left me here, left me with him, completely at his mercy. As far as I know, she didn’t even come back to see if I was okay, if I needed help, if I needed to go, too.

I don’t hate her for that. I don’t even envy her that she got out so much earlier than even Mia. To do either of those things requires feeling, and I don’t feel. Anything. So I live with him still, numb and beyond caring.

How else could I be?

Day 4:

The Stranger She Married by Donna Hatch

Let’s get into this book.

When her parents and only brother die within weeks of each other, Alicia and her younger sister are left in the hands of an uncle who has brought them all to financial and social ruin. Desperate to save her family from debtor’s prison, Alicia vows to marry the first wealthy man to propose. She meets the dashing Lord Amesbury, and her heart whispers that this is the man she is destined to love, but his tainted past may forever stand in their way. Her choices in potential husbands narrow to either a scarred cripple with the heart of a poet, or a handsome rake with a deadly secret.

Cole Amesbury is tormented by his own ghosts, and believes he is beyond redemption, yet he cannot deny his attraction for the girl whose genuine goodness touches the heart he’d thought long dead. He fears the scars in his soul cut so deeply that he may never be able to offer Alicia a love that is true. When yet another bizarre mishap threatens her life, Alicia suspects the seemingly unrelated accidents that have plagued her loved ones are actually a killer’s attempt to exterminate every member of her family. Despite the threat looming over her, learning to love the stranger she married may pose the greatest danger of all, a danger to her heart.

Snippet #3

“We have this bond, you and I…this connection. Do you feel it?”
Although the room was dark, she could see his eyes, deep wells of blue, focused on her. This was the most he had ever opened up to her, and she did not want to blow this chance. “Of course I feel it. We’ll always have a link, an intensity. It will be there, no matter what happens.”
He pushed a hand through his hair. “These past weeks have been surreal. I wish we would have met under different circumstances, but no matter how it happened, I’m glad we did meet.”

“Perhaps it was fate.” She smiled.

Wings by Pete Abela

Wings is a stirring, cross-generational account of the love of flying inspired by the true story of Walt, a WWII RAF pilot, and his grandson Scott who has his sights set on becoming a modern day airline pilot. Wings weaves together two tales: one set in war-torn northern England, and the other set in the modern-day Illawarra region of New South Wales. As Scott learns about the sacrifices and difficulties Walt overcame to take to the sky, he battles his own challenges in order to follow his dream. As Scott progresses, his grandfather declines – Walt loses his wife, his sight and his hearing – but throughout these difficulties is still there to offer support and encouragement. In following Scott’s progress towards his dream, Walt also keeps alive the wonder of his own youth. With insights into the modern day aviation scene and life in the Royal Air Force of World War II, this is a must for anyone who has an interest in history, aviation or simply an old fashioned love story.

Facebook Event

Walt lay awake in bed for hours that night. He tossed and turned, replaying the ride in his mind and thinking about the rides he would undertake in the morning. Not satisfied with what he had achieved, he also spent time imagining possible improvements to the rudimentary bicycle. He finally drifted into a restless sleep, filled with dreams and movement.

Walt’s typical outfit as a young boy was a pair of shorts, a shirt, wooden shoes and occasionally a pair of socks. His only concession to the Lancashire winters was the addition of a woollen sweater during the colder months. From their cottage in the countryside, they walked two miles to school every day. The shortest route was across the fields, crossing a number of fences and stiles along the way. During winter, the snowdrifts could reach up to two feet in height, which was too deep for his younger brother to manage, so Walt regularly trudged a good part of the two miles with Edward on his back.

He often joined his father on poaching trips. He would get up at six on aSunday morning, and they would walk across the deserted moors for hours, dressed in long coats with large internal pockets and carrying a rifle each. He shot his first rabbit at the age of twelve, although the recoil from the rifle was much stronger than he expected, knocking him off his feet. As Walt fell backwards, the gun left his hands and flew skywards, whilst the mortally wounded rabbit somersaulted forward.

Walt didn’t last long at school. He was a bright boy, and despite multiple bouts of serious illness, consistently topped his class. Despite his academic prowess, he was caned regularly, often for minor infringements. Once he started high school, the family’s tight financial conditions compelled him to maintain an ongoing search for employment. At the age of fourteen, he noticed a sign, ‘Boy Wanted’ in the window of Walmsley’s Butcher. He entered the shop immediately.

Book Blitz: The Black Blossom by C J Anaya

Forced into a strange, dream-like state, Hope Fairmont is reliving her life as Mikomi, Princess of the Kagami Empire and The Healer of the world. Life as an Imperial Princess is rife with danger, betrayal and intrigue as Mikomi joins forces with a rebel group of samurai warriors in order to usurp the throne from her tyrannical father. To win this seemingly hopeless war, she must train with Musubi, a warrior in the rebel army, and learn the art of the sword without revealing her identity as The Healer.

Unbeknownst to her, Musubi harbors his own secret identity and personal agenda, both of which hold dark consequences for Mikomi’s future. Neither one can afford to share their secrets, nor can they ignore the powerful chemistry building between them.

Further complications arise at the arrival of her betrothed, Katsu, who must aid her in mastering control of her own gift before she ascends as a full kami on her eighteenth birthday. Katsu is not the cold-hearted warrior god she expected, but how can she spend eternity with a deity she may never love?

Determined to avoid her destiny, she spies on her father and his generals, collecting intelligence for the rebel army in the hope that one day the empire of Kagami will be liberated and her own future will be hers to control.

World’s collide in the second book of The Healer Series as this epic love story carries the reader on a journey filled with romance, action, adventure and intrigue. A paranormal romance unlike anything you’ve read before, you won’t want to miss out on the second installment in this clean teen romance series.

C. J. Anaya began writing short stories for family and friends when she was thirteen years old. This soon morphed into an extensive project every year during Christmas as a way to create a fun and inexpensive Christmas gift.

Her passion for reading and writing led her to following her own dreams of becoming a published author. She was born in Utah and raised everywhere else. She even lived a few years in Brazil, enjoying the people, the culture and learning the beautiful language of Portuguese; a language she is still fluent in to this day. As a result of her exposure to varying peoples and cultures, her interests became varied as well.

As a mother of four children she is now a singer and a songwriter, a baker and a cake decorator, a dancer and a choreographer, a girl with a degree in Criminal Justice and a first time published author of YA paranormal romance and fantasy. She is also married to the most deliciously, handsome looking Latino. As always, she has plenty to write about.

It took only a few minutes to clear the ruins and approach The Holy Cherry Tree resting several hundred yards in front of the temple. Though dusk had settled over the earth, the tree let off a golden light all its own. Its bark and limbs were a golden amber hue, sparkling with a light only something as holy and magical as this relic could produce. The white cherry blossoms stood out against the darkened sky, sending off a magnetic aura of promise. The sweet fragrance of the blossoms filled my senses and pulled me forward. The tree was mystical and magnificent, but I knew what it was meant for.

Despite my deep reservations, I allowed myself to be pulled forward, entranced by its beauty and the possibilities it held. I stood only a few feet away from it when I felt a presence standing next to me. I couldn’t take my eyes from the ethereal blossoms, however. I struggled to rip my gaze from the hypnotic scene and acknowledge the person standing next to me but failed miserably. I needn’t have worried since the stranger broke the silence first.

“Are you here to request a blessing from the god of love and marriage? A little late in the evening for that sort of thing, wouldn’t you say?”

I knew that voice. The low timbre of his words effectively broke whatever hold the shrine had over me. I abruptly turned and came face to face with Musubi, the man from Daiki’s tavern. I couldn’t hide my elation as I felt a slow grin capture my lips. The glow from the tree glinted off his blue eyes, and they seemed to twinkle merrily from their dark depths.

“What are you doing here?” I asked.

“I wondered the same thing of you. Is there some injured soul wandering the ruins looking for a pretty woman of medicine to attend his every need?”

I blushed. “Of course, not. I’m merely…passing through.”

He arched a skeptic eyebrow at me. “Passing through? With two warriors and an old man trailing you?” He paused, waiting for me to offer up some explanation, but I remained silent. I couldn’t break my promise to Akane and tell him who I was. He continued in another vein. “You don’t intend to ask the god of love and marriage for a young man of your own, then? I hear the deity is quite generous with his blessings when pretty young maidens are involved.”

“Of course not.” My blush became more fierce. “I’m not in the market for a husband at the moment, and even if I had a young man in mind, I certainly wouldn’t ask a kami for permission.”

Musubi studied me, clearly intrigued. “Really? Why ever not?”

Well, now I’d done it. I couldn’t seem to behave properly whenever I found myself in this man’s presence. He looked upon me intently, as if my response might matter more than anything else ever possibly could.

“I’d rather leave my fate in my own hands.” We were facing one another now. A powerful urge to wrap my arms around him and pull him to me assaulted my senses, and I barely controlled the impulse.

Musubi reached for me. He lightly took hold of my hands and pulled them toward himself, studying them for a moment. His lips turned up at the corners and his smile was kind. “They seem like capable hands to me.” He gently rubbed his thumbs within both of my palms.

I couldn’t have uttered a single word.
