Originally, Rocky Patel Cigars was named Indian Tabac Cigar Company, which had a blend with the same name that came out in the mid 90s at the RTDA (Now the IPCPR). The cigar was a hit. Retailers flocked to his booth to get their hands on this new exciting cigar, which became instantly popular with cigar smokers. During this newfound popularity, he traveled to Honduras and spent 5 years learning everything he could about the industry.
In 2002, he decided it was time to shake things up a bit. He reorganized and changed the name of his company to Rocky Patel Premium Cigars. The next year, he released the Rocky Patel Vintage 1990 and Rocky Patel Vintage 1992 which received extremely high ratings from almost every cigar rankings website or magazine in existence. He took this momentum and started traveling the nation, going from small brick and mortar shop to the next, selling his cigars everywhere he went. His passion led him to a virtual cross country road trip to get the word out about his cigars, and thus his reputation as one of the hardest working men in the industry was born.
Today, Rocky Patel is still going strong, traveling the world like he did in his heyday in the United States, going cigar shop to cigar shop to sell his primo stogies. Only now he can proudly claim he has one of the largest catalog of cigar lines of any manufacturer to date, including fan favorites such as the Rocky Patel Decade, the infamous Edge collection, and the extremely sought after 15th Anniversary.
It’s incredible to think that Rocky entered the cigar market at its peak when multi million dollar cigar companies were squashing anyone who dare threaten to compete with them, and at the boom’s demise where only a few lucky brands stood strong when the dust settled. It’s truly a testament to the passion he gained during his time as an entertainment lawyer, which continues to grow with each artisanal cigar he offers.
